Chad: Security forces start Operation Harmattan

On Saturday, July 10th a Chadian mixed force including the National Gendarmerie, The Nomad Guard and the National Police force, started Operation Harmattan, a heightened mobilisation of security forces to combat banditry and insecurity.

The operation was launched in the capitol on Saturday and is focused on the 1st, 5th, and 8th districts.

“This operation was planned under the utmost secrecy and has been in the making for three or four weeks.”

General Souleyman Abakar Adam, Minister of Public Security and Immigration

On the first day of their operation they arrested 614 persons including 70 women and 32 minors.
